Peace Animation

For almost two decades, I have been a member of Cartooning for Peace, an international organization based in Paris. It began in 2005 at the United Nations in NYC, and I was invited to be there to speak about the power of cartoons in helping foster understanding and peace. This initiative is very dear to me, as I always hope that my drawings can bring people together and encourage dialogue. This is what CFP is all about.

I was honored this past fall when they asked if they could use one of my drawings for an animation, in conjunction with numerous French Media companies.

UN Women Interview: Cartoons can help

Recently, I was interviewed by the United Nations initiative, UN Women. Their mission is to help women around the globe, as “the global champion for gender equality, working to develop and uphold standards and create an environment in which every woman and girl can exercise her human rights and live up to her full potential. We are trusted partners for advocates and decision-makers from all walks of life, and a leader in the effort to achieve gender equality.”
It was such an honor to be interviewed by them. I hope my work can in some small way help women around the world.

Liza Donnelly is “The Observer” – Noteworthy by Medium

It was an honor to be selected as a Noteworthy Writer for Medium, a wonderful online publication started by Ev Williams, co-founder of Twitter.  I have been publishing with Medium for years now, and I love the simplicity of the design and their mission statement. It is a place for my writing and drawing (together and alone) that  is supportive and yet also leaves me alone to do what I feel I need to do!   In the introduction to this wonderful brief video, the Medium editors say I was chosen  “…for finding nuance in the news cycle, Liza sketches everything that can’t be said.”   https://noteworthy.medium.com/liza-donnelly-c848c1d06ac4

Kill Me Now: Being on Judy Gold’s Show!!

Guest co-host comedian Karen Bergreen, Judy Gold and myself before taping.

I was thrilled to be a guest on comedian/actor/writer Judy Gold‘s podcast, Kill Me Now.
I met Judy in the lobby of  CBS studios in midtown, where she records, and the hilarity began immediately. During the podcast,  she asked me questions about my work, career, global  stuff, my parents, my sister, my kids and how I met my husband Michael. We talked feminism and comedy, and I had TWO–count them–TWO  Kill Me Now moments. I got kinda pissed off at some stuff, not at Judy, she was my catalyst.  Judy is outrageous, kind, thoughtful and very funny. You don’t find those things together in one person very often.  And she’s very tall.
At the end, Judy asked if I would come back and be a guest again. Absolutely, I hope she does ask me back! You can listen here.  And there’s a place to subscribe to her podcast, so do it!  She had Dick Cavett on recently and my  friend Annabelle Gurwitch.

Freedom of Expression: A Festival In France To Celebrate Political Cartoons

In September 2015, I was fortunate to visit a beautiful village in France called L’Estaque. They have a festival every year, where they celebrate political cartoons and freedom of expression. I was honored with a solo exhibition, and I spoke at the local high school. This year, the creative leader of the team of organizers was the wonderful cartoonist Fathy Bourayou. I met many old cartoonist friends, and met many many new ones.  The hospitality and joy of the celebration was very warming. They invited me back next year, and I hope to be there!
