The 12th annual New York Comedy Festival happened this past week, created by Caroline Hirsch, founder of the comedy club Caroline’s On Broadway and partnered with Comedy Central. It is held all over different venues in the New York city area. I was fortunate to attend many of the events, in clubs and concert halls, and live draw them for The New Yorker. My editor suggested I narrow my focus, so I chose to attend shows that had women comedians or women in the field of humor. This is a passion of mine, women in the field of comedy, and I have interviewed a number of such performers and creators of humor on my Forbes.com column. I went to as many as I could–granted I could not see all the acts of every woman who performed during the week. Sarah Silverman’s show was canceled due to illness, sadly. And you will see drawings of Judd Apatow below: his show was billed as Judd Apatow And Friends, and I thought perhaps one of the friends would be a woman, since he is a big champion of women humorists. But alas, his “friends” were Mike Birbiglia and Adam Sandler.
