Live Tweet Drawing At The DNC!

unnamed-4It’s with great enthusiasm that I can announce I will be going to the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia to live tweet draw what I see for The New Yorker and CBS This Morning.  The CBS morning show will have me on set each morning to draw the guests and hosts, then I will wander the halls and street (if the heat doesn’t get me) to draw stuff and tweet it out. So follow me on twitter @lizadonnelly for live updates. Also follow @NewYorker and @CBSThisMorning accounts, too!

Social Media Weekend in NYC with Sree Sreenivasan

Liza recently was invited by  Sree Sreenivasan to attend his Social Media Weekend in New York, held at CUNY School of Journalism.  Over the course of a fascinating two days full of information and conversation, Liza drew the panelists and speakers, as she tried to learn all the wealth of material being presented. Here are her drawings of some of the speakers and panelists.

A Gathering of Brave People: Oslo Freedom Forum

The Oslo Freedom Forum is no ordinary conference. For one week every year, human rights advocates, artists, tech entrepreneurs, and world leaders meet to share their stories and brainstorm ways to expand freedom and unleash human potential across the globe. This year in May, the eighth gathering in Oslo, Norway,  Liza was invited to curate an international exhibit of cartoons to be shown at the Forum.

The speakers came from all over the globe.  Many had risked their lives (and continue to do so) for the cause of freedom of speech, to help their country, to battle dictators and corrupt governments. Many are individuals who dedicate their lives to helping activist and artists battle oppressive regimes, many are creators of non-profits whose mission is to change cultural stereotypes.

To see some of the videos of the speakers, and learn more about Oslo Freedom Forum, go to their website, follow them on twitter or Facebook.

Liza live-drew all the speakers.

NBC News: Donnelly is “a pioneer of on-the-fly sketching of live events — an art she calls tweet-drawing”

Lauren Prince, a reporter for NBC News,  got in touch with Liza before the New York Primary and asked if she could videotape her live drawing of the evening’s returns as she watched them.  They had a great time talking politics, watching the returns, and discussing new media.  Here is the article Prince wrote about Liza, and she did a Snapchat during the evening as well.  According to Prince,  within moments of beginning, the NBC Snapchat had 100 viewers.
